All About Purpose In You
Growing up comes with a lot of change. Friendships shift, confidence wavers, and the pressure to be enough can feel overwhelming. Purpose In You is a 50-day devotional created to remind girls:
God made you with purpose.
Your identity is secure in Christ.
You are already loved, chosen, and deeply known.
Each of the 50 devotionals are designed to be simple, short, and sweet, making faith feel approachable for girls who are navigating friendships, school, family, relationships, confidence, comparison, showing love when its difficult, and the everyday pressures of growing up.
It’s a meaningful gift for daughters, granddaughters, students, friends, small groups, and any girl you want to encourage in their faith.
A Note From Millie
Hi there!
When I fell in love with Jesus at twelve, my favorite part of the day quickly became my morning devotion time with God. Captivated by His love, I ran downstairs one morning and told my mom, “I am going to write a devotion book!” I chose 50 verses and spent time after school writing about each one. In the process, I fell even more in love with Jesus—and with writing about Him!
I came up with the name Purpose In You in 2016, with the subtitle “From a Tween to a Tween.” I wanted to share the good news that had changed my heart with girls my age.
I let the project sit in a Google Doc for years until the summer before my sophomore year at Westmont College, when I returned to Camp Greystone as a counselor. Having eighth-grade girls for five weeks, I saw firsthand the social pressures they faced. Caring deeply for these 12 girls, I began writing devotions that spoke to those pressures and reading them each night before bed.
My love for writing about Jesus was rekindled, and I realized I had been around their age when I first began writing Purpose In You. I felt the nudge to finish the project God had placed on my heart years before.
It may not be From a Tween to a Tween exactly as I imagined, but in many ways, it still is. I kept the same verses and many of the ideas I wrote as a twelve-year-old, while adding the perspective I gained as a camp counselor.
In a way, this book is a conversation between my twelve-year-old self, the girls I met years later, and now, you!
I pray these devotions bring peace to your heart and, most importantly, point you to Jesus.
Lovingly,
Millie
I am a big advocate for spending time in Scripture and prayer beyond simply reading a devotional. This is your journey with the Lord, which is why I’ve included space at the bottom of each devotion for you to write your own prayer.
My biggest hope is that Purpose In You would help you fall in love with spending time with Jesus—not only through these pages, but through Scripture, prayer, and simply being with Him. I pray this book encourages you to seek Him for yourself. He wants to spend time with you, hear from you, and be close to your heart.
Each devotion includes one verse, but I encourage you to open your Bible and read the entire chapter. Sit with God’s Word, meditate on it, and then spend time in prayer—pour your heart out to Him and listen closely.
Most of all, I hope this book helps you delight in simply spending time with the Creator of the universe. You don’t need perfect words. Just come as you are. He is happy to meet you there.
